Mule Deer or others, I just scored a couple hundred .284 160 grain Speer Hot Core bullets. At 2700ish Feet per second what kind of penetration/ expansion would you expect? Would you use this combination from a 7x57 for bigger game than deer? I have some H4350, and some Staball 6.5. Thanks in advance!

Ron I'd shoot anything in NA with that combination except a Grizzly. And I'd use it for that too if that's all I had. Bella Twin killed a world record Grizz with a 22 rimfire..

Brother shot a med sized whitetail with that bullet from his 280 this year. MV was 2800. Deer, quartering toward, was hit in the shoulder at approx 50yds. Died right there but bullet did lose its core and did not exit. Might just have been one of those things, but I was a little surprised.

That was one of the bullets JOC said his wife used in her 7x57 but, that was decades ago.

Based on experience with other Hot Core bullets, I would have no problem using the 160 gr. Speer in either my 7x57 or .280 Rem. on animals up to and including elk size. If Grizzly Bear were on the menu or in the area I was hunting then I'd look at the 160 gr. Grand Slam, the older two core version preferably. They shoot quite well in my .280 bit I haven't tried them in the 7x57. I do like the 150 gr. Nosler Partitions in my 7x57s. PJ
